How to Trade USDT for USDC at the Best Rate
Rift Research
Last updated
TLDR: Compare the USDC received after trading fees, spread, gas and any withdrawal costs. Rift routes USDT to USDC across supported venues with no added router fee and enforced noncustodial execution. Retail CEX fees can outweigh an apparently better exchange price.
The pair is tight. A hidden 0.15% aggregator take is the whole difference.
What moves the rate
- Spread between USDT and USDC (not always 1.0000).
- Gas on Ethereum vs an L2.
- Price impact above a few hundred thousand.
- Interface markup.
- Your exchange account's trading fee and withdrawal cost, if comparing a CEX route.
Other options
| Situation | Routes to compare after fees |
|---|---|
| Same chain, retail size | Deep stable pool or RFQ (Uniswap, Curve-like pools, Bebop, CoW) |
| Same chain, large size | Full-size routed, orderbook and RFQ quotes using your actual fee tier |
| USDT on chain A, USDC on chain B | Swap, then CCTP — or one aggregator quote that does both |
| You do not want to pick the venue | Rift |
Do not wrap USDT and call it USDC. Convert to native Circle USDC, then send via CCTP if the destination is a CCTP domain.
Rift supported chains include Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base and the rest of the set. If Uniswap, an RFQ venue or CCTP wins, Rift gives you that path with no added fee.
Rift can often deliver a better net rate than a retail CEX while enforcing noncustodial execution. The lowest institutional exchange tiers and negotiated OTC quotes for very large trades can change that comparison. Check the fee for the exact stablecoin pair, since it may use a different schedule from other spot markets; Kraken's fee schedule is one example.
Compare the same USDT input and destination in one quote window. Include every trading fee, spread, gas charge and withdrawal cost in the final USDC received.
