Rift vs. HyperUnit (Unit)
Rift Research
Last updated
TLDR: Rift is an aggregator with best price execution. It includes HyperUnit (Unit) and all other supported venues in its routes. Rift adds 0 fee on the route, so you are guaranteed at least as good a rate as going to Unit directly. If Unit has the best route, Rift gives you that route with no added fee.
HyperUnit (Unit) is a lock-and-mint bridge that brings Bitcoin and other assets into the Hyperliquid ecosystem via a guardian/MPC network. Rift is an aggregator on Bitcoin, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Hyperliquid, RobinhoodChain, Tempo, XLayer, Ink and Pharos. Rift can use Unit as one possible path when routing to or from Hyperliquid.
Short version
| Dimension | Rift | HyperUnit (Unit) |
|---|---|---|
| Role | Aggregator | Specialised bridge into Hyperliquid |
| Fee | Zero added fee | Network fees (typically low fixed); no large protocol take |
| Trust model | TEE | Guardian network (MPC, 2-of-3 for critical operations) |
| Focus | Best price execution across venues on supported chains | Bitcoin (and other) deposits/withdrawals for Hyperliquid |
| Best for | Selecting the best overall route at zero added fee | Direct, purpose-built path into Hyperliquid |
Where each wins
HyperUnit wins when:
- Your only goal is to move assets into or out of Hyperliquid
- You prefer the specialised bridge path
- You accept the guardian trust model
Rift wins when:
- You want best price execution across Unit and other possible paths
- Zero added fee matters
- The overall best route may not be the Unit path
Key differences
Unit is a specialised bridge. It has concrete operational details that matter (confirmation requirements, minimum deposit thresholds, guardian assumptions).
Rift is an aggregator. It includes Unit in its venue set. If Unit is the best path, Rift gives you that path with no added fee.
Important operational note: Unit has historically had a minimum Bitcoin deposit threshold below which funds can be unrecoverable. Always verify current parameters before using either path for small amounts.
When to use which
- Use HyperUnit when you specifically want the direct bridge into Hyperliquid.
- Use Rift when you want best price execution across paths at zero added fee.
