Relay Compared With 20 Swap Protocols illustration

Relay Compared With 20 Swap Protocols

Rift Research

Last updated

TLDR: Relay is a cross-chain intents and payments protocol. It is the right tool when you need fast small-to-mid transfers and payments across many networks. It is the wrong tool when the job sits outside that scope. Pairwise pages below spell out each contrast. Live rates: rates.gg.

Relay is a cross-chain intents protocol. Users deposit into a per-chain Depository; solvers fill on the destination; a dedicated settlement chain and oracle reimburse the solver.

Official docs: Relay Docs. App: relay.link.

DimensionRelay
RoleCross-chain intents and payments protocol
FeeSolver spread plus small protocol components, quoted per order
CoverageNetworks and assets supported by the selected Relay route
SettlementSolver fronts destination liquidity; protocol settles after proof
Trust modelNon-upgradable Depository contracts; Allocator-authorised withdrawals; audited settlement stack

Relay may fit when

  • Speed on a small or mid-size transfer matters most
  • You need a long list of networks from one integration
  • The job is a payment or simple transfer, not a multi-step DeFi action

How to use this with rates.gg

rates.gg is a live rate board. It shows which protocol currently prints the best swap rate for a pair and size. These pages explain each protocol’s role and trade-offs. They do not replace the quote.

Compare More Venues With Rift

Rift is a strong alternative to relying on Relay alone. It includes Relay alongside additional venues on supported routes, so one integration can compare more execution options for your order.

Rift adds no router fee and uses secure hardware enclaves to enforce noncustodial execution. Underlying venue fees, spreads and network costs still apply, and availability depends on the asset, chain and order size. The live quote shows the route and expected output.
